"Lunch with Friends" — October 14, 2011
11:00 Registration, 11:30 am-1:00 pm
Allen County Memorial Coliseum

This year’s event hosted the premiere of “Life with Francine’s Friends” a short film starring Colleen Murray and Robyn Scott of Chicago’s Second City and produced locally by PUNCH FILMS. This "day in the life" approach looked at "Jill" and "Karen" as they peaked inside the world of Francine’s Friends.  From the volunteers and supporters to individuals whose lives have been touched by mobile mammography, it provided an intimate, and sometimes humorous portrait of this vital life-saving community service.

Click here to view photos from the 2011 event.

Dr. R. Prasad Mantravadi, MD, FACR, FACRO, presented medical updates and we were thrilled to showcase two new Francine’s Friends "superstars" - Mary Jo and Mari, our 2011 survivor makeovers. Thank you to TrendSetters Hair Design, Merle Norman and Cookie Massbaum, boutique consultant and Stein Mart - our makeover sponsors.

Presenting sponsor: PHP Foundation. Luncheon Sponsors: Radiation Oncology Associates, Indiana Surgical Associates, SDI Foundation, Vera Bradley, Emley Design Group, Punch Films, Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology, and Cindy Friend Lifestyle Studio.

Annual funds raised each year help cover the actual cost of screening mammograms for women regardless of their ability to pay.

"Lunch with Friends" — Friday, October 8, 2010
Lisa Rinna — actress, “Dancing Queen,” model, host, author, and entrepreneur, and known to many as Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives, and Taylor McBride on Melrose Place, is coming to Fort Wayne this week! Rinna will be in town on Thursday, October 7, for a VIP reception with sponsors and other VIP “Friends”, and then will speak at the Francine’s Friends “Lunch with Friends” luncheon on Friday.

Rinna replaces Carrie Ann Inaba, who is unable to keep her commitment due to another opportunity. Rinna will be accompanied by her husband, Harry Hamlin, most notably of L. A. Law fame. The couple is also starring in TV Land’s Harry Loves Lisa, a docu-soap series premiering this week.

The mission of Francine’s Friends is to make early detection of breast cancer available to every woman in Fort Wayne and the surrounding area. The Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography Coach travels to various community and business sites to bring mammography screening to every woman, including those who might otherwise not have access or appropriate insurance.

On May 25, 2010, the coach made its 1,000th site visit, and as of September 30, 2010, over 12,500 women have been screened and over $475,000 to cover the cost of mammograms has been raised through this annual fundraiser. Francine’s Friends is also a recipient of the 2008 Health Care Hero Award, in the category of Community Achievement in Health Care.

Also at the event — the lucky winner of this year’s room makeover will be announced. Cindy Friend Lifestyle Studio has teamed up with Francine’s Friends to give one lucky woman a room makeover for her home.  Each woman in Allen County who visit the Francine’s Friends Mobile Mammography Coach for a mammogram in November or December of this year will be eligible to enter a drawing for next year’s makeover and the winner for this year will be announced at the October 8th luncheon.

For information on both the VIP "Meet and Greet" or the Friday Luncheon, contact Jeanne Garton (phone: 625-3532 or email: jeannegarton@aol.com).
