LaGrange County Community Foundation supports Francine's Friends

Laura Lemings, director of the LaGrange County Community Foundation, presented a check from the foundation’s “Circle of Love” campaign to Francine’s Friends mobile mammography program. Receiving the donation are Debi Kennedy, community outreach coordinator of the Parkview Comprehensive Cancer Center (and coach scheduler for the coach for Francine's Friends), along with Rob Myers, president of Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

The donation will help to cover the cost of screening mammograms through Francine’s Friends for women who might otherwise have put their mammogram off because of financial constraints.

Each February the LaGrange County Community Foundation holds its “Circle of Love” campaign. For a gift of five dollars or more, the “Circle of Love” sends a valentine to the person of the donor’s choice, letting them know a gift has been made in his or her honor.

“We truly appreciate the ‘Circle of Love’s’ continuing support. Since the annual campaign first began, Francine’s Friends has received over five thousand dollars,” said Kennedy. “Nearly forty women have been able to get a screening mammogram thanks to the ‘Circle’s’ continuing support.”

“Francine’s Friends has been a natural fit for the monies raised through ‘Circle of Love’ valentines,” said Lemings. “What better opportunity to provide loved ones a valentine with a lasting impact than helping to remove a financial barrier to a test that can save a woman’s life.”

Francine’s Friends mobile mammography program serves a twelve county area in northeastern Indiana. “Through donations like this one,” continued Kennedy, “women who have no insurance, a high deductible, or are without the financial resources needed, are able to receive an annual mammogram, making it more likely to identify a problem early, when treatment is most effective.”
